Laredo and Nuevo Laredo are a shopper’s paradise. As you step off the International Bridge, you will know that you have stepped into another land, full of right colors, smells and sights. You are surrounded by shop after shop featuring crafts, jewelry, clothing, leather items, pinatas and a variety of other merchandise. This is where your challenge begins - finding just what you want at a bargain price.
For the serious shopper the Nuevo Market (New Market) is recommended. The block-long open air market features 100 plus small shops. Top quality merchandise is featured at Marti’s, sometimes called the “Neiman-Marcus of Mexico.” After shopping or just for a break, the fun continues as you sit back, relax and do some “people watching.”
You will be dropped off at the base of
International Bridge #1, where you walk across the Rio Grande to Nuevo
Laredo. Wear comfortable shoes, as you will do a lot of walking. It is a good idea to bring proof of your U.S. citizenship such as a driver’s license or birth certificate. Both cities collect bridge tolls at the entrance. There are many places that will exchange currency, but most places will accept dollars at the current exchange rate. Most restaurants accept major credit cards.
